creating a river

Today the kids dug a tiny canyon in the dirt patch next to the backyard deck, then let the water run from the hose down into it, forming a river.  They excitedly described what they saw and the experimented with sending items downstream and building dams.  It was  a beautiful day,  with weather that made it clear that  autumn is near.
